The Philippines and the United Kingdom have started talks on a proposed Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SOVFA) to strengthen defense cooperation.
The first formal negotiations were held on Aug. 27, led by Philippine and UK defense officials.
The pact would provide a legal framework for military exercises, training, and other activities in each country.
The DND said the agreement would improve interoperability and address security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
The Philippines currently has similar military access arrangements with six other countries, including the United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, and France.
