The House of Representatives will investigate allegations of an unrecorded P8 billion firearms allocation under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which was not included in the 2025 or 2026 budgets.
Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno revealed that similar budget irregularities seen in the Department of Public Works and Highways are now surfacing in other agencies, including the DILG.
The House committee on public order and safety, led by Rep. Rolando Valeriano, has been tasked to conduct hearings to clarify the alleged firearms purchase and its absence from official budgets.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, who opposes the firearms deal, expressed willingness to cooperate and undergo a congressional probe.
Meanwhile, House leaders are recommending sending the proposed 2026 National Expenditure Program back to the Department of Budget and Management for review amid growing budget irregularities.
