The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said prices of basic goods are expected to remain stable despite a looming fuel price hike driven by renewed tensions in the Middle East.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said the agency has not received any requests from manufacturers to increase prices but is prepared to meet with them if global tensions worsen.
The Department of Energy earlier warned that fuel prices, particularly diesel, could rise by more than P10 per liter.
Meanwhile, consumer group Partners for Affordable and Reliable Energy (PARE) urged Congress to amend the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) to address rising electricity costs and recurring bill shocks.
The group also called for a review of power sector practices, including system loss charges and supply agreements, to help reduce electricity prices.
