The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has advised farmers served by the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) to delay planting palay due to declining water levels in the Chico River.
The advisory applies to downstream and tail-end service areas in Kalinga and parts of Isabela.
The agency said the prolonged dry season caused by El Niño has reduced the river’s water supply, threatening irrigation for rice farms.
Officials urged farmers to wait until water conditions improve before planting.
The NIA continues to monitor the river to help manage available irrigation water.
