The Philippines has been named the world’s best retirement destination in the Retirement Abroad Index 2026 of the Expatriate Group, earning a score of 78 out of 100.
The country ranked highest for its accessible retirement visa program, low cost of living, and strong expat community, making it an attractive option for foreign retirees.
The index also highlighted the widespread use of English and the availability of long-term residency through the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV).
However, it noted that healthcare quality varies significantly between urban and rural areas, with major cities offering better medical facilities.
Thailand, Colombia, Portugal, South Africa, and Sri Lanka rounded out the top six countries in the 2026 rankings.
