The Philippines reclaimed its position as the world’s second-largest banana exporter in 2025, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The country exported three million metric tons of fresh bananas, nearly 29% higher than the 2.33 million metric tons recorded in 2024.
The FAO attributed the increase to improved production, recovery from Fusarium Wilt Tropical Race 4, investments in banana farms, and government support for farmers.
Ecuador remained the top exporter with 6.5 million metric tons, while the Philippines also remained a major banana supplier to China and Japan.
The government is seeking zero tariffs for Philippine bananas in Japan through ongoing negotiations to amend the Japan–Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement.
