Roots of Health, an organization focused on empowering women and youth through sexual and reproductive health education, is advocating for the full implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in schools nationwide.
In response to opposition from groups like “Project Dalisay,” the organization emphasized that CSE provides reliable, age-appropriate information to help young people navigate adolescence safely and responsibly.
They highlighted the ongoing issue of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines, with over 450 girls under 19 giving birth every day, and urged parents and guardians to support the program.
The group also pointed to the positive impact of CSE, citing a 60% decline in Puerto Princesa’s teen pregnancy rate since 2017, thanks to education efforts.
To improve access to CSE, Roots of Health recommends better training for educators and health workers and calls for greater collaboration between government agencies to leverage existing resources and platforms.
