President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. launched the nationwide expansion of the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) in Bulacan to combat child malnutrition and improve the health and academic performance of Filipino learners.
The expanded program now provides universal feeding for all Kindergarten and Grade 1 students in public schools while continuing nutritional support for severely wasted and wasted learners from Grades 1 to 6.
The government allocated about P26 billion for the program, which will provide meals for at least 180 school days this academic year.
The Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture also formalized a partnership to ensure a steady supply of locally sourced food and milk for the initiative.
The program is being rolled out nationwide as lawmakers push for further expansion of school nutrition services through proposed legislation.
