PSYCHIATRIC GROUPS CALL ON DEPED TO HALT LIVE SHOOTER DRILL

The Philippine Psychiatric Association and Philippine Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry urged DepEd to defer its planned live shooter attack drill, citing possible psychological harm to students.

The groups said there is no clear evidence that such simulations reduce casualties or prevent attacks.

They recommended safer measures such as controlled entry points, security systems, and trauma-informed protocols.

The groups also suggested tabletop exercises to improve preparedness without exposing students to frightening scenarios.

They called for a joint mental health task group to study the effects of such drills before any nationwide implementation.
