The eGilas Pilipinas captured its first-ever eFIBA World Finals championship after sweeping Turkiye, 2-0, in Season 4 at the Mall of Qatar in Doha on Saturday, July 4 (Manila time).
After settling for back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the previous editions, the Filipinos finally broke through and secured the $20,000 top prize, equivalent to around P1.2 million.
The team composed of Miguel “MiguelCarlo” Hubillar, Kenneth “Clue-” Gutierrez, Miguel Chris “_iLuvio-” Briones, Joshua “_JMacc” Machado, and Prich “DonP” Diez, under coaches Nite Alparas and Anthony De Jesus, lost only one game throughout the two-day tournament.
eGilas edged Turkiye, 64-62, in the opening game of the finals before sealing the title with a 68-60 victory in Game 2 behind MiguelCarlo’s 32 points and nine assists.
The Nationals also dominated the group stage with wins over France, Algeria, and Germany before surviving a tough three-game showdown against France in the upper bracket finals to advance to the championship round.
