Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon vowed to include functional comfort rooms in the government’s efforts to improve old and dilapidated public school facilities nationwide.
The assurance came after Dizon inspected Liwan West Elementary School in Rizal, Kalinga, where he observed unsafe classrooms and poorly maintained restrooms.
He stressed that clean and working comfort rooms are essential to protect students’ health and dignity.
Dizon also noted the need to repair aging classrooms built in the 1980s, many of which already show cracks and damaged ceilings.
The DPWH said it will continue monitoring and upgrading school facilities in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to address urgent infrastructure problems.
