The government’s “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” has reached over 133,000 beneficiaries in its latest rollout, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on May 8.
Now in its fourth year, the program provides reading support to struggling elementary learners and offers training sessions for parents, tutors, and youth development workers nationwide.
DSWD reported that 57,291 child learners and parents or guardians are currently participating, alongside 11,468 tutors and 7,570 youth development workers assisting in implementation.
The initiative, carried out in partnership with schools, local government units, and higher education institutions, combines literacy tutoring with parenting sessions to strengthen home-based learning.
It also provides cash-for-work assistance to tutors, youth workers, and participating parents, with sessions scheduled to continue until September, depending on regional timelines.
