The Department of Justice (DOJ) has rescheduled the preliminary investigation into the first five “ghost” flood control project cases in Bulacan to November 14 due to the suspension of government work from Super Typhoon Uwan.
The probe will examine charges including malversation, perjury, and graft involving former and current Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, as well as a private contractor representative.
DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Andres said a second batch of six cases is being prepared for investigation and eventual filing.
The investigation also plans to look into higher officials, including senators and congressmen, who allegedly receive kickbacks from the projects.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla deputized the DOJ to handle these probes to supplement the limited manpower of the ombudsman’s office.
