Ronald Dela Rosa appealed to Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to protect Filipinos from prosecution by foreign courts after seeking refuge in the Senate to avoid arrest under an International Criminal Court warrant tied to crimes against humanity allegations linked to the Duterte administration’s drug war.
The ICC confirmed the authenticity of the warrant issued against Dela Rosa, who denied involvement in extrajudicial killings and insisted he is willing to face charges only before Philippine courts.
Malacañang said President Marcos ordered all law enforcement agencies to follow the law, citing Republic Act 9851 as the legal basis for possible cooperation with international authorities through Interpol.
Senate leaders, including Alan Peter Cayetano and Panfilo Lacson, stressed the importance of due process while debating the limits of Senate protection and enforcement of the ICC warrant within Senate premises.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police said it is preparing contingency plans pending lawful court orders, as political tensions continue to rise over the ICC investigation into the Duterte-era anti-drug campaign.
