Rep. Leila de Lima has filed House Bill 9170 proposing expanded cash benefits for Filipino senior citizens starting at ages 70 and 75, in addition to existing government incentives for older age milestones.
De Lima said the measure aims to provide earlier financial support, noting that many Filipinos do not reach the higher age thresholds under the current Centenarians Act or are already in poor health when they do.
Under her proposal, seniors would receive P25,000 at age 70, P10,000 at 75, P50,000 at 80, and P75,000 at 90, building on existing benefits for ages 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100.
She cited government and international data indicating relatively low life expectancy in the Philippines, arguing that policies should better reflect the realities faced by the elderly.
De Lima emphasized that the initiative is intended to strengthen social protection and ensure seniors receive meaningful support during their later years.
