The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed the disqualification case against Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, citing that the petition was both legally defective and filed five months past the deadline. The complaint, lodged by a local resident, alleged Garganera violated the three-term limit for councilors. However, Comelec ruled that Garganera’s 2019–2022 term was legally interrupted due to a delayed proclamation and oath-taking, which reset the term count based on jurisprudence. This interruption made him eligible to run again in the 2025 elections. Garganera, who remains in office after winning reelection, thanked his daughter-lawyer Aliko Jasmine for defending him during the case.
