AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. visited troops in Negros Occidental on May 2 and urged them to sustain gains from recent operations against the New People’s Army (NPA).
He also commended soldiers of the 79th Infantry Battalion following clashes in Toboso and Calatrava that resulted in multiple casualties, including an NPA commander.
Two wounded soldiers were awarded the Military Merit Medal for their bravery during separate encounters, with one still recovering in the hospital.
Brawner emphasized that military gains should translate into lasting peace and stronger community cooperation against insurgency.
The 79IB also received recognition from the Toboso local government for its role in maintaining security after the clashes.
