Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III urged barangays nationwide to lead efforts in addressing illiteracy, saying education is key to reducing poverty and improving livelihoods.
Speaking at the Liga ng mga Barangay national convention, he stressed that the campaign “Zero Illiteracy — One Barangay at a Time” highlights the crucial role of local communities in expanding access to education and opportunities.
Dy warned that illiteracy limits employment, economic participation, and social mobility, making it harder for Filipinos to improve their lives.
He emphasized that barangays are the first line of support in identifying out-of-school youth and families needing assistance, making them central to the campaign’s success.
He also said improving literacy is both a social responsibility and a long-term investment that supports national development and the vision of a “Bagong Pilipinas.”
