Education Secretary Sonny Angara said on Wednesday that there is no need for him to resign, calling allegations linking him to multibillion-peso infrastructure anomalies “purely hearsay.”
His remarks came after former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman resigned amid ongoing corruption investigations.
Angara stressed that there is no specific accusation or transaction tied to him, saying that such claims would be dismissed in court.
Former Public Works Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo implicated Angara, along with Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Grace Poe, as allegedly receiving kickbacks during his time as Senate Finance Committee chair.
Angara denied the accusations, noting that the claims involved former Education Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar and are unsubstantiated.
