The private school arm of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) has urged the government to establish a standardized minimum wage for private school teachers.
ACT Secretary General Jonathan Geronimo criticized the administration for failing to provide meaningful support amid rising oil and commodity prices, calling personal austerity measures an “insult” to educators.
He highlighted that private teachers earn as low as P10,000 monthly in provincial areas, while Metro Manila salaries average P17,500.
Geronimo also called for increased direct subsidies to teachers and government intervention to resolve salary and labor issues in private schools.
He added that excise taxes further reduce teachers’ limited incomes, and systemic support is urgently needed to ease their financial burden.
