President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is aiming to establish 349 specialty centers nationwide by 2028 as part of efforts to improve access to advanced healthcare services.
He announced after inspecting the Brain and Spine Center at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City, the first facility of its kind in Northern Luzon.
Marcos said the government will also continue expanding health benefits through PhilHealth and strengthening regional hospitals to reduce the need for patients to travel to Manila.
He cited lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that many patients in far-flung areas struggled to reach specialized care in time.
The plan is aligned with the Regional Specialty Centers Act, which mandates the creation of specialty centers in government hospitals nationwide.
