Veteran actress Vilma Santos addressed her exclusion from the latest batch of National Artists, saying she has learned to accept that some things are simply not meant to be.
Speaking during a talkback session for the restoration of her film “Sister Stella L.,” Vilma said the 63 years of love and recognition she has received from the entertainment industry are already a significant gift.
She acknowledged the attention surrounding the latest National Artist selection but congratulated those who were honored, including scriptwriter Bing Lao, whom she had worked with.
Vilma also urged people to avoid negativity and “below the belt” exchanges, emphasizing that not receiving a particular recognition does not diminish one’s life or achievements.
At 72, the actress said her priorities are now her family, the health of the people she loves, and protecting her peace as she chooses to focus on enjoying life.
