Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial scored a third-round knockout victory over Omar Ulises Huerta in their eight-round middleweight bout at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Marcial dropped Huerta with a perfectly timed counter right to the temple, prompting the referee to stop the fight with 1:44 remaining in the third round.
The victory kept Marcial undefeated at 8-0 in his professional career and marked his first fight since beating Eddie Colmenares by unanimous decision last October.
Despite the win, Marcial will skip the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya after the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines said the short recovery period and long travel from the United States made his participation impractical.
Huerta suffered his second consecutive defeat and fell to a 15-2-1 record.
