Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go questioned the Department of Transportation (DOTr) over delays in implementing projects funded under the 2026 national budget, saying agencies should account for previous appropriations before seeking additional funds for 2027.
He specifically cited the P700-million allocation for the development of Mati Airport in Davao Oriental, which had yet to begin as the year neared its end.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said right-of-way acquisition for the planned 2,100-meter runway had been completed and that the DOTr had requested the release of funds from the Department of Budget and Management.
The expanded runway is intended to accommodate larger aircraft and provide an alternative airport during disasters and emergencies.
Go asked the DOTr to submit a list of transportation projects funded in 2026 that remain unimplemented, emphasizing the need for efficient use of public funds and timely project completion.
