The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will proceed from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said preparations will continue because Nov. 2 remains the election date under existing law.
Garcia said the filing would only be stopped if a law postponing the elections is enacted and signed before the scheduled filing period.
He stressed that Comelec must follow the current legal timetable while awaiting any official action from Congress and the government.
The agency is therefore continuing preparations for the BSKE unless a new law formally changes the election schedule.
