The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned on Friday that widespread dangerous heat index levels are affecting much of the country as the peak of the warm and dry season continues.
Heat index values between 42°C and 51°C have been recorded in several regions, including Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
PAGASA said coastal and low-lying areas are especially vulnerable due to high humidity, which makes it harder for the body to cool down through sweating.
The agency also noted that Borongan, Eastern Samar, recorded the highest heat index so far this season at 48°C on May 11.
Authorities urged the public to limit exposure to extreme heat, stay hydrated, and expect continued hot conditions in the coming days as the country transitions toward the rainy season.
