ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio criticized the proposed Pax Silica project in New Clark City, warning that its massive power demand could strain the country’s energy supply.
He claimed the project could be used to justify the establishment of modular nuclear power plants under the US-Philippines 123 Agreement.
Tinio argued that allocating an estimated 5 gigawatts of electricity to the data center could worsen power shortages and drive up electricity costs.
He also questioned the project’s benefits, saying it primarily serves foreign corporate interests rather than the country’s energy needs.
Tinio called on the government to scrap the Pax Silica project and reject plans for modular nuclear power.
