TAB BALDWIN MEETS INVESTIGATORS IN PLAYERS’ DROWNING CASE

Former Ateneo Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin appeared before the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Friday, nearly two weeks after the drowning deaths of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a training camp in Aurora.

His appearance came after a new subpoena and a warning from Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla that he could face contempt charges for repeatedly ignoring earlier summonses.

Investigators said they are treating the incident as more than an accident and are considering filing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide or violations of the Anti-Hazing Act.

Baldwin had previously skipped hearings before the CIDG and the National Bureau of Investigation, with his lawyer citing health reasons.

Ateneo has accepted Baldwin’s resignation and launched its own fact-finding inquiry, while the Department of Justice has issued immigration lookout orders against him and several team officials.
