San Juan City launched its Right To Care Card Program on June 17 as part of its 19th Cityhood Anniversary celebration, implementing the city’s Healthcare Proxy Ordinance.
The program allows qualified individuals to designate a trusted person to make healthcare decisions on their behalf through a Special Power of Attorney if they become unable to do so.
Mayor Francisco Javier M. Zamora said the initiative promotes patient autonomy, dignity, and inclusive healthcare for all residents.
The first batch of beneficiaries included 11 LGBTQIA+ couples and four heterosexual couples who received their Right To Care Cards during the launch.
Actress and LGBTQIA+ advocate Jervi “KaladKaren” Wrightson welcomed the initiative, saying it advances equal rights and recognizes love, trust, and human dignity.
