The Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association (PCSA) urged the Marcos administration to remove roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) terminal fees to reduce transportation costs and help ease rising prices of basic goods.
PCSA Chair Lucio Lim Jr. said the fees account for 5% to 10% of freight costs for a 10-wheeler truck and can reach 15% on some short-haul routes.
He said these additional charges increase the prices of food, construction materials, and other consumer products.
The group also proposed treating RoRo ports as public infrastructure and placing ports outside the Philippine Ports Authority and Cebu Port Authority’s base ports under the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Lim said removing the fees and developing expressways connecting major production centers and ports could lower logistics costs and help reduce inflation.
