The Department of Education (DepEd) said classroom allocations must prioritize schools with the most severe shortages following an EDCOM 2 report that found only 45.2% of 332 local government units with the highest classroom needs were among the top recipients of planned 2026 allocations.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara said the department is using data-driven assessments to ensure resources reach schools that need them most.
DepEd’s current LGU-led construction program covers 8,777 classrooms across 1,955 schools in 439 LGUs nationwide.
Partnerships with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and 48 LGUs have also secured 576 classrooms for construction in priority communities.
The agency said it will continue exploring various construction partnerships and monitoring projects to ensure transparent and efficient delivery of classrooms.
