Carlos Yulo finished eighth in the floor exercise final at the 54th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Saturday, Oct. 24, after scoring 13.233 points.
The reigning Olympic champion was aiming to reclaim the world title he last won in 2019 but suffered a costly fall during his routine.
American gymnast Frederick Richard won gold with 14.633 points, followed by Great Britain’s Jake Jarman with silver at 14.600 and Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat with bronze at 14.466.
Yulo’s fall after a front double somersault hurt his score, despite earning a 0.1 bonus for a stick landing.
He will seek redemption in the vault final on Sunday, Oct. 25, after placing sixth in the qualifying round.
