Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has accepted the “Bayang Bumabasa: Mayors for Literacy” challenge by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), reaffirming literacy and education as key priorities in Pasig.
The challenge encourages mayors nationwide to promote literacy through innovative initiatives showcased in social media videos.
Sotto highlighted the city’s scholarship programs supporting over 26,000 students, the “Malusog na Batang Pasigueño” health program, school supply distributions, and connectivity allowances benefiting around 150,000 students and teachers.
He also emphasized the success of the Summer Reading Camps, which raised children’s reading test scores from 14% in 2024 to 18.81% in 2025.
After accepting the challenge, Sotto passed it on to Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, continuing the campaign to boost literacy across the Philippines.
