Over 1.5 million beneficiaries, representing 67% of the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) aid recipients, received assistance through the agency’s satellite and extension offices nationwide, according to a recent report.
As of August 31, the OVP provided support to a total of 2,027,164 individuals through its medical, burial, and relief programs, with specific numbers including 22,029 for burial assistance and 96,771 for medical aid.
The OVP proposed a P2.037 billion budget for 2025 to aid 1.4 million Filipinos, but the House Committee on Appropriations has recommended cutting this to P733.198 million.
This budget reduction affects the OVP’s social services and reallocates funds to other agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Health (DOH).
Additionally, the OVP faces scrutiny over its rental expenses, with proposed cuts to its lease budget reflecting concerns about high costs compared to previous years.
