Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the PNP will invest more in the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) as it completes its transition away from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
He noted that previous funding programs for the PNPA were poorly implemented and stressed the need to improve staffing, organization, and capital outlay.
Nartatez, a PMA Class of 1992 graduate, will be the last PNP chief from PMA before retiring in March 2027.
The PNP’s shift away from PMA aligns with RA 6975, which mandates a civilian-focused police force separate from the military.
Nartatez emphasized his legacy goal: ensuring public safety and leaving the PNP in good shape for the future.
