The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority formally turned over M/B Dalaray, the country’s first electric ferry, following a pilot run that served 3,258 passengers and cut 16,000 kilograms of CO₂ emissions.
Officials highlighted the ferry’s safety, cleanliness, quiet operation, and environmental benefits as key achievements.
MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the project marks a major step toward sustainable, efficient, and innovative water transport in the Philippines.
Plans are underway to build two more electric boats and coordinate with government agencies to expand the program, complementing the upcoming fully electric Love Bus.
MMDA officials noted minor improvements needed, such as enhancing communications at ferry stations, while emphasizing the urgent need for cleaner public transport amid global energy concerns.
