The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said a five-year community-based solid waste management program cut waste reaching waterways and pumping stations by 58 percent.
The initiative covered 202 barangays across 13 Metro Manila local government units.
It also increased household participation in waste segregation and recycling, helping improve community cleanliness.
Project results and a database were turned over to the participating LGUs.
The LGUs pledged to continue and replicate the program in their areas.
