Executive Secretary Ralph Recto has ordered government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to identify communities most vulnerable to El Niño and prepare assistance ahead of its expected stronger effects in January 2027.
He directed officials to ensure adequate supplies of water, food, and electricity, particularly in areas at risk of shortages and extreme heat.
The government is also preparing alternative water sources, solar-powered irrigation systems, fuel subsidies for farmers, and emergency assistance for affected families.
Schools, hospitals, and other essential facilities will also be prioritized to ensure continued services during the dry spell.
Recto stressed that LGUs must develop localized plans based on the specific needs and risks of their communities.
