₱1 BILLION FUNDING PUSHED FOR ASF PROTECTION IN SMALL FARMS

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is seeking a ₱1-billion budget in 2027 to vaccinate hogs in small-scale farms nationwide against African swine fever (ASF).

DA spokesman Arnel de Mesa said the program will prioritize small hog raisers who cannot afford the vaccines.

The request follows the approval of the Vietnam-made AVAC vaccine for commercial distribution in September.

The DA is also reviewing another ASF vaccine from South Korea and exploring other suppliers.

As of Oct. 22, 238 barangays nationwide still had active ASF cases.
