Suspended Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has officially announced his intention to run for reelection in the 2025 midterm elections, with Glenn Bercede, the acting mayor, as his vice mayoral candidate.
Cortes announced the “Istorya Ta! A Move for Good Governance and Transparency” forum on September 19, reassuring supporters that his 12-month suspension does not prevent him from seeking office.
Last month, he was suspended by the Ombudsman due to his appointment as an unqualified officer, but Cortes confirmed he was still eligible to run.
He also revealed part of his lineup, including incumbent councilors and former officials who will join his ticket.
As the Cortes-Bercede team develops, other potential candidates are emerging, including provincial board member Thadeo Jovito Ouano and city treasurer Regal Oliva, who is considering a congressional run but remains focused on her current duties.
