The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has issued 1,297 special permits for passenger buses ahead of the Holy Week exodus to accommodate the expected surge in commuters.
LTFRB Chair Vigor D. Mendoza II said rising fuel prices may lead more Filipinos to use public transport instead of driving their own vehicles.
The agency tasked regional directors to monitor bus terminals, deploy additional buses if needed, and ensure all units are roadworthy.
Bus operators were instructed to maintain vehicle safety and verify drivers’ readiness, while coordination with LGUs and law enforcement will support road safety.
Mendoza emphasized that these measures aim to protect commuters and other road users during the holiday travel period.
