The government has launched a digital fare system for all 13 stations of the LRT-2, allowing commuters to pay through contactless bank cards, mobile wallets, and GCash QR.
The project by the Department of Transportation, Light Rail Transit Authority, and RCBC removes the need for separate transit cards or reloads.
The system is expected to serve over 160,000 daily LRT-2 passengers and may be expanded to other major transit lines.
Officials said the pilot program will provide data and insights for wider implementation of cashless payments.
The government also plans to introduce the contactless fare system on the LRT-1 later this year.
