The La Trinidad government has banned elementary and secondary students from staying in malls and other commercial establishments during class hours to discourage truancy.
Mayor Roderick Awingan signed an executive order prohibiting students from entering these establishments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except under specific exemptions.
Businesses that violate the order may face fines, while law enforcement officers and barangay officials have been tasked to enforce the policy.
The measure supports an existing ordinance aimed at reducing unexcused student absences.
Local officials said the policy seeks to promote school attendance and protect the welfare of children.
