Business name registrations and renewals in the Philippines surged six percent in January, reaching a record 251,168 filings, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported.
Of these, 199,325 were new registrations while 51,843 were renewals, with the majority processed online.
Wholesale and retail trade led all sectors with 166,386 filings, followed by accommodation and food services, real estate, and manufacturing.
By region, Calabarzon had the highest business activity at 45,392 registrations, followed by Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
Despite the strong start in 2026, total business name registrations fell nearly four percent in 2025 due to slower economic growth amid domestic and external challenges.
