The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor has urged judges to declare former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte fit to stand trial in his crimes against humanity case.
In a seven-page filing made public Monday, acting prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang said medical experts’ reports indicate that Duterte is fit to face trial.
The details of the experts’ findings were redacted, but Niang cited what he described as reduced effort and unreliability during some assessments.
The ICC Trial Chamber III will determine Duterte’s fitness based on the medical panel’s findings.
His trial is currently scheduled to begin on November 30.
