Former Senate sergeant-at-arms Mao Aplasca has been dismissed from government service, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced on Saturday.
Remulla said he signed the dismissal order on June 29 but did not disclose the grounds, adding that the full decision will be released to the public this week.
Aplasca had been under a six-month preventive suspension without pay while the Office of the Ombudsman investigated the May 13 shooting incident at the Senate complex.
The incident occurred when National Bureau of Investigation agents attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, during which Aplasca reportedly fired the first warning shot that led to an exchange of gunfire inside the Senate building.
The controversy also led to multiple complaints against Aplasca, including obstruction of justice, and his eventual replacement as acting Senate sergeant-at-arms in June.
