Abdulraof Macacua was elected chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) during the inaugural session of its newly elected parliament on Wednesday.
He secured 51 votes against former chief minister Ahod Ebrahim, who received 27 votes, with one abstention and one absence.
Macacua previously served as interim chief minister from March 2025 until his election as a parliament member in September.
He vowed to promote inclusive governance for Muslim, Christian, and non-Moro indigenous communities in the region.
President Marcos, who attended the opening session, said the gathering marked the end of BARMM’s seven-year transition period and the start of its first regular parliamentary government.
