The Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to simplify the driver’s license application process after suspending over 100 driving schools for non-compliance and cracking down on online license fixers.
Outgoing DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that reforming the current system is necessary to prevent corruption and discourage Filipinos from seeking illegitimate shortcuts.
He warned that complicated procedures drive applicants to use fixers, who now operate mostly online, charging fees for unqualified individuals to get licenses.
The DOTr, together with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, continues to pursue fixers and corrupt officials, with offenders facing criminal charges and possible dismissal.
The agency stresses the importance of legitimate licensing to ensure road safety, highlighting recent arrests of individuals producing fake licenses and IDs.
