The Office of the Ombudsman has issued show cause orders against outgoing Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and DILG Undersecretary Rolando Puno for defying a six-month suspension order.
Garcia was suspended over granting a permit to a construction firm without environmental clearance, but publicly refused to comply with the suspension.
The Ombudsman accused Puno of allowing Garcia’s defiance by delaying action pending clarification from the Commission on Elections.
Both officials have five days to respond to the contempt allegations.
The suspension was challenged due to a Comelec rule barring suspension of elective officials without its approval during election periods.
