The Department of Justice (DOJ) is expanding the role of public prosecutors to handle school-related concerns, including bullying, as part of efforts to prevent crimes involving minors and provide early intervention for victims.
Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida encouraged students and parents to report bullying cases to prosecutors, who may pursue legal action, mediation, or referrals depending on the situation.
The initiative follows the recent school shooting in Tacloban City, highlighting the need for stronger preventive measures and coordinated emergency response plans in schools.
Vida also called for greater collaboration among local governments, police, schools, and other
agencies to address violent extremism and the influence of social media on youth.
